(Haiti) Ayiti Cheri sho sho

Roselyn Joseph cries over the loss of her daughter Emanuela Aminise, 14, who died in the earthquake.

I've decided to write something original for this entry since I've posted a number of pieces on other sites including LIB.

It can seem overwhelming to see the pictures and hear a myriad of commentary from the multitude of NEWS portals; everything from the independent talk radio/Ustream to the bigoted and shall I add strategic comments from the "main stream" channels. To get a complete picture of this island nation known today as Ayiti (Haiti) one must look back over 200 years (Sankofa), and connect the proverbial dots.

The island today, even before this so called "natural disaster" -- catastrophic earthquake -- is a shimmering example of deliberate, shall I say shamelessly strategic and otherwise tactical, oppressive intervention. So much so that in its' 200 years as the first and only "Black" nation; a republic birthed out of unprecedented "chattel" slavery revolts it has never been given the "rights" to act like a nation from the international community. Starting with an illegal fee levied against the nation by France after gaining its' independence...

All this aside since the story of this nation deserves a comprehensive study and the needs of the hour are urgent let me first give out some donation information:

Update:

We have to be there for them in their hour of need,” President Barack Obama said. U.S. President promised an all-out humanitarian effort to the Haitian people.

Democrats Abroad Canada urges you “to be there” for the people of Haiti by making a disaster relief contribution now.

The Government of Canada has just announced they will match dollar for dollar the contributions of individual Canadians to eligible Canadian charitable organizations in support of humanitarian, recovery, and reconstruction efforts in response to the earthquake in Haiti, up to a total of $50 million for donations made before February 12th.

Look up "How You Can Help" at the CBC story link that follows to find a list of Canadian charities accepting donations.

Former U. S. President Bill Clinton has also pledged that funds received at his Foundation site will immediately go to Haitian relief efforts.

The New York Times posted contact information below on links to U.S. based relief agencies. Contact any one of them to learn of their Canadian counterpart which may be participating in the Canadian matching dollar program.

I would like to conclude this entry by highlighting:
